چکیده

Mast cells in the lid and uvea of the rat, guinea pig, rabbit, and monkey were counted by averaging the counts in serial histologic sections and multiplying by an appropriate calculated geometric factor. The lid counts are higher than the uveal counts and the iris count is low compared with the remainder of the uvea. Histamine and serotonin contents xoere determined by biochemical assay. The uveal histamine values vary from 1.2 to 8.9 (ig per gram, and the lid values vary from 11 to 105 fig per gram. The uveal values are at least 10 to 100 times the normal aqueous concentrations of histamine in the literature. Mast cells contain from 1 to 8 fifig of histamine per cell ivith the exception of the anterior uveal tissues of the rat and rabbit where the histamine—mast cell ratio is one hundred fold higher. The serotonin values of uvea and lid range from 0.3 to 4.2 fig per gram. Mast cells contain from 0.06 to 0.20 HHg of serotonin per mast cell with the exception of the uveal tissues of the rat and rabbit in which the serotonin mast cell count is twentyfold higher.

Determination of Relative Frequency of Mast Cells and Eosinophils in Gastric Mucosa Biopsies in Children with Recurrent Abdominal Pain and Normal Endoscopy

Abstract Background Numerous disorders can cause recurrent abdominal pain. Many of these cases underwent endoscopy and clinician encounters patients with history of recurrent abdominal pain and normal endoscopy. We evaluated these biopsies with regard to their eosinophils and mast cell densities to find out a potential relationship between recurrent abdominal pain with eosinophils and mast ce...

A comparative study on the mast cells count in oral squamous cell carcinoma and normal oral mucosa

Introduction: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is one of the 10 most common malignant tumors and SCC accounts 94% of all oral malignancies. Mast cells are regarded as complex and multifunctional cells, playing a significant role in immunopathology . The aim of this study is to evaluate the number of mast cells in tissue sections of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in comparison with norma...

MAST CELLS IN THE TYMPANIC PART OF THE FACIAL NERVE IN CHRONIC OTITIS MEDIA WITHOUT ASSOCIATED FACIAL PARALYSIS

The occurrence of mast cells is studied in the normal facial nerve and in the facial nerve post mortem exam of patients with chronic suppurative otitis media without associated facial paralysis. A small number of mast cells were found in the normal facial nerve. These cells were usually located in close proximity to the endoneural and epineural blood vessels. The number of mast cells was i...

The Effect of Smoking on Mast Cells Density and Angiogenesis in Chronic Periodontitis

Background and objective:Gingival bleeding reduction in smokers has been associated with decreased blood vessel density. The mechanism of suppressive effect of cigarette smoking on blood vessel density is not precisely defined. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of smoking on angiogenesis by assessing mast cells density and VEGF expression in chronic peri...
